Tis’ The Season For Holiday Beers

As Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers begin to fade out, winter and holiday cheer beers are filling their spot. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Dec.-Feb. allows beer drinkers to enjoy cinnamon ales and sweet chocolate porters.

There are plenty of great holiday ales, but these five ales are my personal favorite.

1. Winter Cheers by Victory Brewing

This wheat ale by Victory Brewing Company is a spicy and fruity combination with a 6.7% ABV. It has German styled wheat with barley malt and Whole Flower Tetthnang and Citra hops. The ale is light, crisp, and fresh with that frothy winter feel.

2. Last Snow by Funky Buddha Brewery

Last Snow is by far my favorite porter, and probably my favorite beer by Funky Buddha (that’s saying a lot since I love just about all of their beers). This porter has flavors of coconut, coffee, and white chocolate. It’s like dessert in a glass. Unfortunately, right now you can only get this beer at the brewery and it’s release date is not out yet. Keep up with their web site and Facebook page for updates.

3. Maple Bacon Coffee Porter by Funky Buddha Brewery

10405287_680864642005220_1365072143006634135_nYes, another fantastic porter by Funky Buddha makes the list. This porter is one of their most famous beers, winning multiple awards. There’s so many different flavors in the beer, you can’t tell which one is better. It’s almost like drinking a cup of coffee (in my books). Funky Buddha will be releasing bottles of their famous beer on Jan. 10 with a huge block party to go with it. The beer will also be on draft that day.

4. Christmas Ale by Anchor Brewing Company

Anchor Brewing Company is one of the oldest breweries in the U.S., and created their first batch of Christmas Ale in 1975. The ingredients in this beer is top secret; no hints for the malt or hops used. This makes just makes the holiday ale that much better. Try it for yourself.

5. Winter Warmer by Harpoon Brewery

A cooper color with a nutmeg and cinnamon aroma, makes this a perfect holiday beverage. The ale was first brewed in 1988, quickly making it a New England winter classic. It’s sweet with a spicy finish that really brings out the cinnamon flavor. You can also try their UFO Gingerland holiday beer.
